We Believe in Our Community
My name is Jackie Hendrix. As a community member, I am a mother and a grandmother, and the owner of Little Ozzie's Family Thrift Store (LOFTS). We are a family run thrift store operating in Duncan, BC. Little Ozzie is my grandson and he inspired me, for the love of family, to name my thrift store after him.
My family and I have shopped thrift stores for years. We noted how many families in the Cowichan Valley were struggling to make ends meet. Housing, utilities, food, clothing and other merchandise are expensive here and there is a trend of prices going even higher. We felt that singles and families needed an alternative, more affordable, way to shop than the regular retail stores that are found here. It shouldn't break your bank to buy clothing and other goods and we wanted to offer an affordable option to buying new. We do offer new items as well but we concentrate on used or second hand merchandise. I find it personally gratifying to help others.
Customer service is number one in our books and we also vowed to provide a more personal shopping experience, which appeared lacking in many stores. We will treat you as we would expect to be treated.
Helping Those Who Live Here
We also noted that a lot of people were looking for employment but they were lacking skills to obtain even entry level positions, especially in the retail sector. By offering a Volunteer Program with incentives we have helped a number of people secure employment in our community. The feedback we receive is heartwarming.
How We Help Local Organizations
Giving back to the community just feels good - socially, economically and environmentally. LOFTS proudly works with local charities and non-profit organizations and offers them a percentage of proceeds from the sale of donated goods (from you!) to assist them with their work. We work with one particular organization through our Volunteer Program and offer their special needs clients opportunities for work, life and volunteer experiences that they may not get elsewhere. By involving these hard working people into our business, Little Ozzie's Family Thrift Store sees them happy and proud of the contribution they make to society. Local social programs need our support and we are pleased to help.
As a Food Bank drop box location we gather and deliver foods donated by our customers. Thank you to all of our customers who have donated in the past and continue to drop off a product when they come to shop at LOFTS. It's wonderful to know that your donations help others in our community.
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
Recycling has been a part of our family for years and fits in with our mission and goals. By donating your used goods we prevent thousands of kilograms of items that would otherwise go to landfills, and they will be reused by others who may not be able to afford to buy the items at full retail price. LOFTS encourage our customers to reduce, reuse and recycle, and to donate, volunteer and shop locally. What we can't make use of or re-sell we make sure it gets recycled. We all win in the end as our environment and community is much better off.
Your Money Stays in the Community
When you shop with us, you not only get an alternative, affordable way to shop, but your spending is more suited to your family and budget, and your money stays in our community.
